What the special inspector may verify
- Specified anchor, rod or reinforcing-bar type and diameter
- Installation location, spacing and edge distance
- Hole diameter, depth and drilling method
- Hole-cleaning equipment and sequence
- Adhesive condition, dispensing, embedment and cure time
Can the holes be drilled and cleaned before the special inspector arrives?
Yes, for work that permits periodic special inspection. The holes may be drilled and initially cleaned before the special inspector arrives if they remain empty, open and accessible. Before epoxy installation, the special inspector must verify that the holes are the correct diameter and depth and are properly cleaned. The special inspector must also observe the epoxy installation as required by the approved plans and product evaluation report. Continuous special inspection requirements still apply where specified.
What if the epoxy was installed before the special inspection?
Ask the building inspector whether a post-installation verification report will be accepted. If authorized, ASI can inspect the visible completed work and issue a report stating that installation occurred before ASI arrived. Because the installation was not observed, ASI cannot confirm the materials used or concealed installation steps. Acceptance remains solely at the building inspector’s discretion.
A pull test is a separate procedure. If the building official requests one, the testing service starts around $1,200 and must be witnessed by a special inspector, whose time is an additional charge.
